Joel S. Marcus has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since May 2007, Chief Executive Officer since March 1997, President since February 2009, and a director since the Company’s inception in 1994. Mr. Marcus co-founded Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. in 1994, Alexandria Venture Investments in 1996, and the annual Alexandria Summit in 2011. From 1986 to 1994, Mr. Marcus was a partner at the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP, specializing in corporate finance and capital markets, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions. From 1984 to 1994, he also served as General Counsel and Secretary of Kirin-Amgen, Inc., a joint venture that financed the development of, and owned patents to, two multi-billion dollar genetically engineered biopharmaceutical products. Mr. Marcus was formerly a practicing certified public accountant and tax manager with Arthur Young & Co. specializing in the financing and taxation of REITs. He received his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles. Mr. Marcus serves on the boards of the Accelerator Corporation, of which he was one of the original architects and co-founders, Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH), Intra-Cellular Therapies, Inc., Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), and the Partnership for New York City. Mr. Marcus received the Ernst & Young 1999 Entrepreneur of the Year Award (Los Angeles – Real Estate).

Dean A. Shigenaga has served as Executive Vice President since May 2012, Treasurer since March 2008, Chief Financial Officer since December 2004, Senior Vice President from April 2007 to May 2012, Vice President and Acting Chief Financial Officer from August 2004 to December 2004, Vice President from July 2002 to August 2004, and Assistant Vice President from December 2000 to July 2002. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Shigenaga was an Assurance and Advisory Business Services Manager in Ernst & Young LLP’s real estate practice. In his role at Ernst & Young LLP, from 1993 through 2000, Mr. Shigenaga provided assurance and advisory services to several publicly traded real estate investment trusts, over a dozen private real estate companies, and many other public and private companies. In addition to providing audit and attestation services, Mr. Shigenaga assisted clients with services related to initial public offerings, follow-on offerings, debt offerings, and technical research. Mr. Shigenaga is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Shigenaga received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Southern California.

Stephen A. Richardson has served as Chief Operating Officer and Regional Market Director – San Francisco Bay Area since October 2011. Mr. Richardson previously served as the Company’s Executive Vice President/Regional Market Director – San Francisco Bay Area from January 2011 to October 2011, and Senior Vice President/Regional Market Director – San Francisco Bay Area from July 2005 to January 2011, where he was responsible for the management of the Company’s San Francisco Bay Area region asset base and operations. From February 2000 to January 2011, Mr. Richardson served the Company as a Vice President. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Richardson served as a Director of CellNet Data Systems from 1993 to 2000, where he was responsible for negotiating large-scale technology transactions and aggregating a national footprint of wireless spectrum. From 1983 to 1993, Mr. Richardson served as a Director of Marketing and Leasing of Paragon Group, a national real estate development company and as real estate broker with Schneider Commercial Real Estate, serving the greater Silicon Valley market. Mr. Richardson is a member of the board of directors of BayBio, a non-profit trade association serving the life science industry in Northern California, a member of the California Healthcare Institute, a public policy research and advocacy organization for California’s biomedical industry, and a member of the Bay Area Council, a business-sponsored, public policy advocacy organization for the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. Mr. Richardson received his Master of Business Administration degree from Santa Clara University and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Literature from Claremont McKenna College.

Peter M. Moglia has served as Chief Investment Officer since January 2009, and has been with the Company serving in a number of capacities since April 1998. From April 2003 through 2008, Mr. Moglia was responsible for the management of the Company’s Seattle asset base and operations. From 1998 to 2003, Mr. Moglia’s responsibilities were focused on underwriting, acquisitions, and due diligence activities. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Moglia served as an Analyst for Lennar Partners, Inc., a diversified real estate company, where his responsibilities included underwriting and structuring direct and joint venture real estate investments. Mr. Moglia began his real estate career in the Management Advisory Services group within the E&Y Kenneth Leventhal Real Estate Group, Ernst & Young, LLP where he spent six years providing valuation, feasibility, financial modeling, and other analytical services to a number of real estate developers, financial institutions, pension funds, and government agencies. Mr. Moglia received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Mr. Gavinet is the Chief Accounting Officer for Alexandria Real Estate Equities. Mr. Gavinet joined Alexandria in 2012 from Ares Management, a global alternative asset manager with approximately $52 billion of committed capital under management where he served as its Chief Accounting Officer. Over his 19-year career, Mr. Gavinet has served various senior finance and accounting roles with several publicly traded REITs including Douglas Emmett, Inc. and Arden Realty, Inc. While at Douglas Emmett, an office and multi-family real estate investment trust, Mr. Gavinet served as its Executive Vice President of Finance, responsible for its accounting and financial planning and analysis functions. While at Arden Realty, which at the time was the largest publicly traded office landlord in Southern California, Mr. Gavinet served as its Chief Accounting Officer. Mr. Gavinet began his career in the Audit Services group within the E&Y Kenneth Leventhal Real Estate Group, where he spent 5 years providing audit services with a focus on real estate organizations. Mr. Gavinet is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of California and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the California State University, Northridge.

Thomas J. Andrews has served as Executive Vice President – Regional Market Director – Greater Boston, since January 2011. Mr. Andrews previously served as Senior Vice President – Regional Market Director – Greater Boston from December 2005 to January 2011, and as Vice President – Regional Market Director – Greater Boston from June 1999 to December 2005. Throughout his tenure with Alexandria, Mr. Andrews has been responsible for the management of the Company’s Greater Boston asset base and operations. From 1988 through 1999, Mr. Andrews served first as Assistant Director and later as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Research Park in Worcester, Massachusetts, believed to be the first purpose-built biotechnology research park in the country. Mr. Andrews serves on the board of directors of the Massachusetts chapter of NAIOP and of the Kendall Square Association, and is a member of the Economic Development Advisory Group of Massachusetts Biotechnology Council. Mr. Andrews received his Master of Science degree from the Center for Real Estate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University.

Daniel J. Ryan has served as Executive Vice President – Regional Market Director – San Diego and Strategic Operations since May 2012. Mr. Ryan previously served as the Company’s Senior Vice President – Regional Market Director – San Diego and Strategic Operations from June 2010, when the Company acquired certain assets of Mr. Ryan’s company, Veralliance Properties, Inc. (Veralliance). During his tenure with the Company, Mr. Ryan has been responsible for the management of the Company’s San Diego region asset base and operations, as well as involvement with developments, redevelopments, ventures, financing, leasing, and other strategic opportunities outside the San Diego region. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Ryan was Chief Executive Officer of Veralliance, a commercial real estate developer, which he founded in 2002. Veralliance owned, managed, developed, and leased an approximately $1 billion portfolio primarily consisting of life science assets in the greater San Diego region. Veralliance had significant institutional equity partners, including HCP, Inc., Prudential Real Estate Investors, and UBS. Prior to 2002, Mr. Ryan worked in the commercial real estate industry in Southern California including his activities as a founding principal of Pacific Management Services, Inc. (Pacific), a commercial developer focused on value-added transactions in the greater San Diego area, including life science, office, industrial, and multi-family transactions. Mr. Ryan is a member of BIOCOM, a Southern California trade organization, as well as, a member of Urban Land Institute, a public policy organization focused on public advocacy of the built environment. Mr. Ryan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and was admitted to Omicrom Delta Epsilon, the honor society for excellence in achievement in the study of economics.

Vincent R. Ciruzzi has served as Senior Vice President, Construction and Development of Alexandria since June 2000. Mr. Ciruzzi previously served as a Vice President from September 1996 to June 2000 and was an active participant in the Company's Initial Public Offering (IPO) in May of 1997. Since Alexandria's IPO, Mr. Ciruzzi has been responsible for the Company's domestic and international construction and development operations and services platform and has overseen the management of entitlements, design, permits, development, construction and completion of nearly 6.5 million square feet of complex life science and specialized high technology ground-up, redevelopment and tenant improvement projects on behalf of the Company. In 1993, Mr. Ciruzzi founded a real estate development and consulting business, which provided consulting services to Alexandria from September 1995 until his appointment as Vice President of the Company. From 1986 to 1993, Mr. Ciruzzi served as Project Manager for Home Capital Development Group, a real estate development company, where he specialized in project management of master planned communities, including the management of a 2,600 acre mixed use community, as well as other real estate development opportunities. Mr. Ciruzzi received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Real Estate from the University of Southern California. Mr. Ciruzzi is in the process of obtaining his certification as a LEED® Accredited Professional and is an active member of the USGBC.

John Cox is the Senior Vice President, Regional Market Director, Seattle for Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Washington. With extensive experience as a leading life science real estate broker, Mr. Cox joined GVA Kidder Mathews in Seattle in 1985 and was the branch manager of their Bellevue office from 1999 - 2008. He has served on their Board of Directors since 2000. Over his 23-year career, Mr. Cox has completed commercial real estate transactions encompassing in excess of 5 million square feet with a transaction volume of over $1 billion. With a proven track record in overseeing extremely complex transactions as a specialist in the life science field, he has completed transactions in the greater Seattle market in excess of 1.4 million square feet. Mr. Cox has represented Alexandria since 1996 with respect to most of the Company's acquisitions in Seattle and has assisted in the procurement of many of Alexandria's valued client tenants. Mr. Cox's expertise as a relationship builder and skilled manager are demonstrated by his leadership role as both branch manager and member of the Board of Directors for GVA Kidder Mathews, and his extensive client list which includes such notable companies and institutions as Novo Nordisk, Icos (now Lilly), Corus Pharma (now Gilead Sciences), the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and the Institute for Systems Biology.

John H. Cunningham is the Senior Vice President – Regional Market Director of the New York Region at Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. Mr. Cunningham has 20 years of experience in real estate development, and has completed over 4 million square feet of space, including numerous complex life science and specialized high-tech projects, large build-to-suits and strategic properties. Prior to joining Alexandria, Mr. Cunningham was at Cambridge Development Group in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area since 1987, where he became the president in 1995. While at Cambridge, Mr. Cunningham worked closely with Alexandria from 1997 to 2007, acting as a third party developer on projects in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. In addition to development, Mr. Cunningham has extensive experience in acquiring and leasing existing commercial real estate. Prior to Cambridge, Mr. Cunningham was the editor-in-chief of The Pro Review magazine, a publication for professional photographers. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Loudoun Country Day School, and the founder of I Support Adoption, Inc., a nonprofit company established to promote adoption. Mr. Cunningham received his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Maryland.

Larry Diamond is Senior Vice President – Regional Market Director of the Suburban Washington, D.C. Region for Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. In 1980, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting / Business Administration from Frostburg State University. Mr. Diamond has 30 years of increased responsibilities in the real estate industry in the Montgomery County, Maryland market. He started his career as an accountant and worked with regional real estate companies throughout his career inclusive of ManorCare Health Services. He has expertise in all phases of property management, leasing, construction and development. In 1998, Mr. Diamond was employed by Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. and opened the Mid-Atlantic regional office in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He is responsible for the Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania markets with a portfolio of approximately 3 million square feet of life science space plus strategic land development parcels.

Jennifer J. Pappas has served as Alexandria's General Counsel since 2008, and has been with the Company since 2002. Ms. Pappas has over 13 years of commercial real estate and related legal experience. Ms. Pappas previously practiced law in the real estate departments of Skadden, Arps, Meagher & Flom LLP and O'Melveny & Myers LLP, where she specialized in acquisition, complex leasing, joint venture, lending and other finance transactions, representing a variety of REITs, private developers and institutional investors. Ms. Pappas is a member of the American Bar Association, and currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Green and Sustainable Transactions Committee of the ABA. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the City of Hope's Los Angeles Real Estate & Construction Industries Counsel. Ms. Pappas received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and her Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School.

Marc E. Binda has served as Senior Vice President – Finance since June 2012, Vice President – Finance and Accounting since 2006, and Assistant Vice President since 2005. Mr. Binda's responsibilities include oversight of the Company's financial projections, debt financing and other capital market transactions as well as involvement in various accounting, financial reporting, and REIT tax matters. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Binda served as the Manager of Financial Reporting with Centro Watt America REIT, a privately held retail real estate investment trust. Mr. Binda began his career in the Assurance and Advisory Business Services group within the Ernst & Young Kenneth Leventhal Real Estate Group, where he spent five years providing audit services with a primary focus on public and private real estate investment trusts and other real estate companies. Mr. Binda is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of California and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from California Lutheran University.

Amanda Cashin, PhD is the Vice President of Life Science at Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. In her role, she leads Alexandria’s Life Science Team and provides scientific expertise and insights to support Alexandria’s clusters. Her responsibilities include leading Alexandria’s venture investment transactions, industry trend analysis, and tenant underwriting efforts. Dr. Cashin earned a PhD in Chemical Biology from the California Institute of Technology and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her scientific expertise and peer-reviewed publications are in the fields of biochemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, pharmacology, electrophysiology, and neuroscience.
